About Don Tomlinson, LL.M,J.D.: Singer, musician, songwriter, novelist, and photographer are just some of the many avocations of former journalist and professor, Don Tomlinson. After working as an Associated Press writer in Little Rock, Don went to law school, which, he says, almost ruined him as a writer. He taught media law in the Journalism Department at Texas A&M for twenty years. For ten years, he was Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Houston Law Center, where he taught Entertainment Law. He now is in the full-time practice of law; among his clients are several authors. In academic year 2000-2001, he was Professor of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University near Nashville, where he taught copyright law, music publishing law, and recording industry legal problems.

Tomlinson holds an LL.M. in intellectual property from UHLC in addition to a J.D. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock,a master's in journalism from the University of North Texas, and a bachelor's in journalism from Arkansas State University. He has published many law review articles in such journals as the Stanford Law & Policy Review, Hastings COMM/ENT, and the Federal Communications Law Journal. While at A&M, Don wrote his first novel, Oedipus Tex, published by Xlibris in 2001.  He is currently working on a sequel to OedipusTex and on a science fiction novel about interspecies communication between humans and marine mammals.

August Monthly Meeting: Marketing for Writers

Our August monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, Aug 12, 2009, at 7pm at the Arts Council Center (2275 Dartmouth Street in College Station).  Writer, publisher, and placement expert Tom Knowles will tell us what an author can do to publicize and market a book both before and after it is published. Whether you have already published a book, hope to publish a book, or are just curious why all those writers want to publish a book, come to the Brazos Writers meeting to find out more.  Many of the tips will apply to writers of genres other than full-length novels.
